Sunburst Sensors wins Wendy Schmidt Ocean Xprize

MISSOULA, Mont. — The Missoula chemical and mechanical engineering startup Sunburst Sensors celebrated a victory, winning the coveted Wendy Schmidt Ocean Xprize. The small team won prizes totaling $3.5 million for its ocean pH and other chemical balance sensors. The device won in both affordability and accuracy categories.

The prize is sponsored by Wendy Schmidt, president of the Schmidt Family Foundation, which works to reward innovative thinkers who help to improve and preserve the Earth’s natural resources through research and development.
